Yoga in Roatan, Honduras

Last month, my friend and colleague Kara and I were lucky enough to spend a few days on the Bay Islands in Roatan, Honduras. Directly following our medical trip for Operation Smile, we hopped on a 45-minute plane ride from San Pedro Sula and spent the weekend lounging, eating delicious food, snorkeling, zip-lining, unwinding. The highlight of the trip for me was the incredible yoga center that we went to, Tranquil Seas. This place is unreal. It’s like a mix of the treehouse from Swiss Family Robinson and a epic zen relaxation Caribbean mansion. An eco-lodge and resort, Tranquil Seas is a 5 taxi ride from West Bay, where we were staying at The Beach House, a place we both highly recommend!

At Tranquil Seas, yoga classes are around $15 and taught by fabulous instructors who take their time with each student. I love that they encouraged us to deepen our practice through different poses and mantras. And on top of that, this is your view during the class. The next time I’m in a yoga class (especially one mid-winter) and they ask you to go to “that place” in your mind, this is where I’ll be: yoga

After the class, we explored their lunch options and both got delicious salads and fresh juices, while looking out at this view. Heaven.

We stayed at The Beach House, a boutique hotel that is located in West End, Roatan. Really lovely spot. Their restaurant, The Landing, is well known for their use of fresh ingredients in all of their cocktails, smoothies and tapas. So delicious!

Honduras has a lot to offer, and getting to Roatan is easier than you think! In fact, there are flights from 4 major U.S cities and it’s fairly affordable.
